I am passionate about working with individuals of diverse cultural/ethnic backgrounds, gender/sexual identities, socioeconomical status, and/or those who have experienced spiritual traumas.
Growing up as an immigrant in the United States, I experienced culture shock, an ambiguous sense of loss, and acculturation issues. I had to define – and am defining – who I am in the midst of a dominant culture. As a result, I do not see therapy as one-size-fits-all. I approach each client with the belief that you can empower yourself. I strive to support your personal growth and encourage you to live your life authentically.
Therapy with me is down to earth. My approach is warm, inviting, collaborative and affirming. Therapy asks us to be open and vulnerable, which can be scary and overwhelming. People need to feel that they are comfortable with me, that they are at home in the therapy space, and that they are not alone in their personal journey.
I am grounded in a holistic approach that takes into consideration and seeks to address all parts of your life — physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, environmental. These aspects affect your overall health. If you are unwell in one aspect of your life, all aspects of your life are affected.
As a bicultural and bilingual practitioner, I want to incorporate your strengths and cultural identity into the therapy space. I will invite you to include your cultural practices, rituals, and traditions in the therapy room, if that is right for you. Doing so, I believe helps you to honor your inner experience, the practices you have in place, future generations, as well as your ancestors.
My work as a therapist draws on relational-cultural therapy, trauma-informed therapy, object relations therapy, and feminist therapy.
